Oak Grove Middle School

Dear Oak Grove Families,

OGMS participated in an Interactive Safety Fair on Friday, what a great learning experience for our students! The event was sponsored by San Diego County Fire and focused on helping students understand the importance of emergency preparedness.

Several organizations were on campus to share their expertise, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Red Cross, San Diego County Fire Community Risk Reduction, the Hazardous Materials Division, the San Diego County Office of Emergency Services, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, among others. Students had the opportunity to interact with representatives, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of safety measures and procedures.

Through this experience, students walked away with a greater awareness of overall safety and preparedness. They also learned practical skills, such as how to develop a safe emergency escape route at home, how to save energy and all about our first responders. 

iReady Diagnostic Student Reports are being mailed home this week. Please take the time to review this report with your child to celebrate progress and to look at areas for further improvement. If you have any questions about the report or your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers.

Registration updates:

• 26-27 Open Enrollment for New Students to our District, Opened April 21st 

• 26-27 Returning Student Enrollment begins May 1st and ends May 29, 2026, please enroll your student through the Parent Portal, ParentVue, all currently enrolled students need to register for the next school year by May 29th.

8th Grade Parent Reminders

Sea World Grad Night, if you have not purchased this special event ticket, please contact Ms. Moran at 619-669-2752 or email lmoran@jdusd.org as soon as possible.  If you would like to be a chaperone, you need to turn in the Volunteer Packet on Monday, April 20, 2026 (remember that it requires a TB skin test)

Cap & Gown Pictures-   Hagar Photography will be at OGMS on Wednesday, April 29th. Promotion portraits will be taken for all 8th grade students. A package will be sent home on their parent approval plan.  This means that no money is necessary on picture day.  You will be able to view your portraits and pay only for the portraits you want to keep.  There will not be a make-up day for promotion pictures.

• Yearbooks are on presale!  The last day to pre-order is May 10th for $35.  After May 10th prices will increase.  Preorders are only available online through the QR code on the attached flyer, you will need the school code that is also located on the flyer, to access the flyer click on the following link: OGMS Yearbook Order Information 

🔔 Friendly Reminders:

• Students are required to place their cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches in their designated phone pouch at the beginning of 1st period. Failure to follow this policy will result in disciplinary action.

Estimadas familias de Oak Grove,

OGMS participó el viernes en una Feria Interactiva de Seguridad.¡Qué gran experiencia de aprendizaje para nuestros estudiantes! El evento fue patrocinado por el Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de San Diego y se centró en ayudar a los estudiantes a comprender la importancia de la preparación para emergencias.

Varias organizaciones estuvieron presentes en el campus para compartir su experiencia, entre las organizaciones participantes se encontraban el FBI, la Cruz Roja, el Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de San Diego para la Reducción de Riesgos Comunitarios, la División de Materiales Peligrosos, la Oficina de Servicios de Emergencia del Condado de San Diego y el Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de San Diego. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de interactuar con los representantes, hacer preguntas y comprender mejor las medidas y los procedimientos de seguridad.

A través de esta experiencia, los estudiantes se marcharon con una mayor conciencia en materia de seguridad y preparación general. También aprendieron habilidades prácticas, como diseñar una ruta de escape de emergencia segura en casa, ahorrar energía y conocer a fondo a nuestros servicios de emergencia.

Los informes de diagnóstico iReady para estudiantes se enviarán por correo a los hogares esta semana. Por favor, dedique un momento a revisar este informe con su hijo/a para celebrar sus avances y analizar las áreas que requieren mayor mejora. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre el informe o el progreso de su hijo/a, no dude en comunicarse con sus maestros/as.

• 26-27 Inscripción abierta para nuevos estudiantes en nuestro distrito, comenzó el 21 de abril.

• Inscripción de estudiantes que regresan (año escolar 26-27) comienza el 1 de mayo y finaliza el 29 de mayo de 2026, Por favor, inscriba a su estudiante a través del Portal para Padres.ParentVue Todos los estudiantes matriculados actualmente deben inscribirse para el próximo año escolar antes del 29 de mayo.

Fotos con toga y birrete- Hagar Photography estará en OGMS el Miércoles 29 de abril. Se tomarán retratos de promoción para todos los estudiantes de octavo grado. Se enviará un paquete a casa con la aprobación de sus padres. Esto significa que No es necesario llevar dinero el día de la sesión de fotos. Podrás ver tus retratos y pagar solo por los que quieras conservar. No habrá sesión de fotos de recuperación para las fotos de promoción.

• ¡Los anuarios ya están a la venta anticipada! El último día para reservar es el 10 de mayo por $35. Después del 10 de mayo, los precios aumentarán.
