The Oak Grove Middle School cross-country team made a fantastic debut at the 20th Greenfield Junior High Meet, where all 14 runners showcased their talent on a challenging 1.2-mile course. The team brought home medals, cementing a promising start to the season.
The event featured outstanding performances, particularly in the sixth-grade girls' race. Freshman Zoe McAllister, competing in her first meet, impressed everyone with her determination and excellent sportsmanship. Jeslin Ramos exemplified her competitive spirit, finishing in 10th place after a competitive run.
Highlighting the sixth-grade girls' race was Sonya Covarrubias, who raced her way into the top three with a remarkable time of 9 minutes and 22 seconds, showcasing her impressive speed and skill.
In the seventh-grade division, Gustavo Mayoral also excelled in his first race, showing great determination. Carlos Ramos finished seventh with a time of 9 minutes and 1 second. The star of the race was Eric Pevatov, who dominated the field, winning by an impressive 35 seconds with a fantastic time of 7 minutes and 51 seconds.
The eighth-grade girls were likewise formidable, with standout performances from Amalia Mayoral and Chriselle Barela. Natalia Nunez placed 15th after a solid run, while Layla Zamora clinched 5th place with an outstanding performance.
The eighth-grade boys' team featured three strong competitors. Armando Covarrubias also demonstrated great talent, while Anthony Leon Rangel placed 13th with an impressive time of 8 minutes and 56 seconds. The standout of the group was Yahir Coss, who raced his heart out, holding off a fierce challenger, finishing 2nd in 7 minutes and 48 seconds.
In a competitive field featuring six other middle schools, Oak Grove Middle School proved its strength and resilience, taking home numerous medals and commendable positions.
Looking ahead, the team's next race will be at Bostonia High School on Wednesday. The team hopes to see even more runners participating and aims to add to their medal collection. Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and dedication! Go Oak Grove!
